Day 2-290 in Chicago resting (and cleaning Lucky Us)

Since we are going to be in Chicago for 12 (?) days, we took today for rest as well as plenty of cleaning up. The Admiral did laundry and scrubbed the flybridge while I worked on the main deck removing stubborn marks from dirty fenders and shore power cords. We did have some "together" time as we shifted Lucky Us in her slip so that the port side of the bow was very close to the dock. We did this to clean the moustache off of the bow. The brown stain (or moustache) accumulates over time from organic material in the water. If you remember back to last Summer, we spent a lot of time in brown water rivers and swamps in Florida and had to clean off the moustache a number of times. This Summer we have been in "cleaner" waters, except for the Erie Canal, and the last time that I cleaned off the moustache was at Fair Haven, New York way back in early June.
If one had to work on cleaning the boat, we certainly had a beautiful setting for our labors. The photo at the right was actually taken yesterday as we approached DuSable Marina. All of the sailboat masts show where the docks are located. The black and white "blob" in the lower left is actually an old car ferry that now serves as the club house for the Columbia Yacht Club. On top there is a large tent that undoubtedly hosted many weddings this past Summer. Lucky Us is at the far end of the marina, and we are the fourth boat out from shore. A benefit of our dock is that the bathrooms, etc. are right at the end of our pier.
To the south (left) of the yacht club is a huge mooring field for boats. Altogether, there must be several thousand boats in this general area.

We really spent almost the entire day on the boat, including having all of our meals on board. WELL, tomorrow is pay back time... The Grandkids (and their parents) arrive at O'Hare Airport at 7:18 pm tomorrow night, and we can hardly wait to see them!!!
