Day 88 enjoying Jacksonville

Today was our full day of R&R in downtown Jacksonville. We left Lucky Us about an hour before game time, and it was a short 5 minute walk from the marina to the stadium. The first picture is of some "boat gaters" at our marina. I was a little surprised (but happy) that the marina was not full of boat gaters. However, it is a workday, and there is a railroad bridge about a half mile upstream that is being repaired. It only has about a 5 foot clearance when it is closed, which is most of the time during these repairs, and that may have kept some boaters away.

The second picture is of more "normal" tailgating. There a special section for tailgating that is a long stretch of road under an elevated highway (shaded and somewhat waterproof).
The stadium is seemingly a wonderful place to watch a football game -outside anyway. Somehow, a football halftime will never be the same for me without the fightin' Texas Aggie Band !!! Jacksonville's answer to half time entertainment was this "futbol" game. The players were inside of "tubes" through the centers of these inflated spheres. Thus the players could run around with their feet on the ground so that they could kick the soccer ball. To "jazz" up the game, there were often as many as 4 soccer balls on the field. On one play a single player kicked two balls into the goal at once. Definitely not FIFA rules but a lot more scoring.
The actual football game was pretty good for an early pre-seaon NFL game although Jacksonville did lose 27-3. Fortunately, the popcorn was very good...
Tomorrow, we are moving a few miles south (but upstream) along the St. Johns River. We will be doing some R&R as well as some minor repairs, which seem to be never ending on a boat. Awwwww, poor me (not).
