The Great White Egret was out fishing for breakfast. We exited the channel to the marina very close to the southern end of the IntraCoastal Waterway where if turns into the Okechobee Waterway that we will take across Florida to the Atlantic Ocean. However, that part of the adventure will have to wait as we are spending 3 nights in Ft. Meyers first.
About this time, we saw one of the MANY warning signs to protect manatess. Guess what? We had our first actual sighting of a manatee. They are very shy, move slowly and barely break the surface of the water when they surface to breathe. So, yes, it is not a great picture, but this was a special moment for us.
The water in the manatee picture looks fuzzy, but it really is rain drops on very flat (no wind) water. The rest of our 16 mile trip for today was pretty but not terribly exciting... We had lunch on board and reached our destination of Legacy Harbour about 1:20 pm. We were greeted at the dock by our boating friend and former neighbor in League City, Bob. Bob had recently been back in League City and had kindly picked up our mail. Poor Bob, we had also had a new set of batteries for both scooters sent to him. That fairly small package weighed 38+ pounds. Many thanks to Bob. After securing the boat, we headed off to the marina pool to relax.
About 6:00 pm, we met up with Bob and Bonnie for a brief walking tour of downtown, and of course, we ended up at one of their favorite restaurants. This is a picture of me with Bob and Bonnie after a great dinner downtown. Downtown Ft. Meyers has been nicely restored and seemed to be jumping on Friday night even in the off (tourist) season. There is a nice stretch of waterfront and at least one other good sized marina. The final picture for today is a general view of part of the waterfront area.
