Many thanks to Bob and Bonnie for (very strongly) suggesting that we visit the Edison-Ford Winter Homes and the Edison Museum and Botanical Research Lab just down the road. As luck would have it, there was rain on/off during the afternoon. So, even though we walked to it, we chose the (indoor) Edison Museum and Botanical Research Lab. The present site dates from 1885, when Edison first visited Florida and purchased the property to build a vacation home. Henry Ford purchased the adjacent house in 1916, although they had been close friends for years and often travelled/vacationed together using, of course, Ford cars and trucks in a small caravan. We both found the exhibits fascinating. For me, it was extra special having grown up in northern Ohio about 30 miles from Edison's birthplace in Milan, Ohio and having visited Dearborn Village (Ford Museum near Detroit). Anyway, lots of FUN.| Edison's Laboratory |
So, we are off tomorrow morning at the "crack" of 8:30 am to head east across Florida via the Okeechobee Waterway.
We enjoyed catching up and swapping cruising stories. Looking forward to your next trip to/through Fort Myers. Sorry I missed your departure, but I did catch a few pic's of "Lucking Us" departing (will send under separate cover). Continue to enjoy your journey. Bonnie and Bob
